Xiaomi unveils three smartphone manufacturing plants in India

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has announced its third manufacturing plant in the country based out of Noida and the first facility for power banks in partnership with Hipad Technology. Spread over 2.3 lakh sq.ft., the facility will initially employ 500 people and the number will increase gradually.

Manu Jain, Vice President and Managing Director, Xiaomi said, "We have seen phenomenal growth in a short span of time and a key reason for that has been our commitment to India. We want to bring the best quality technology at an affordable rate and local manufacturing helps us in that."

"Hipad Technology is our partner in China for Power Banks and their constant support has helped Xiaomi become the most popular power bank brand in the world. We thought with the growing market size of Power Banks in India, it is important that we bring our manufacturing partners to India to provide Mi Fans with a truly localized product and extend our commitment to Make in India," he further added.

The company already has two smartphone manufacturing plants in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh where more than 95 percent of its smartphones (sold in India) are assembled locally.

The smartphone maker also announced two power banks- the 10,000 mAh Mi Power Bank 2i and 20,000 mAh Mi Power Bank 2i which will be priced at Rs 799 and Rs 1,499 respectively. Power Bank 2i will be available at 12 noon on Mi.com and Mi Home stores starting November 23 2017.  Power Bank 2i will also go on sale across Mi Preferred Partner stores and all Large Format Retail partners in December.

Xiaomi is now amongst the top player in Indian smartphone space. According to recent numbers revealed by IDC, Xiaomi with 23.5 percent share enjoys the top spot with Samsung in the Indian market.
