Xiaomi has finally launched its 'Desh ka Smartphone', the Redmi 5A in India with two storage variants- 2GB+ 16GB for Rs 5,999 and 3GB+ 32GB for Rs 6,999. However, the first 5 million units of the 2GB RAM variant will be available with a Rs 1,000 discount, bringing the price down to Rs 4,999.
Xiaomi has also teamed up with Reliance Jio to offer Redmi 5A at an effective price of Rs 3,999. The telco is offering a special tariff of Rs 199 for Redmi 5A users offering free voice calling, SMS, and 1GB of data for a period of 28 days.
In terms of specifications, the device sports a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) display with a pixel density of 296ppi. It is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC that's clocked at up to 1.4GHz, coupled with 2GB or 3GB of RAM. The smartphone bears a 13-megapixel rear camera with a f/2.2 aperture, coupled with LED flash and PDAF. On the front, it has a 5-megapixel camera with a f/2.0 aperture.
Redmi 5A comes with 16GB and 32GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB of storage via microSD card. The dual-SIM device runs on MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat and is backed by a 3000mAh battery. The company claims to deliver 8 days of standby time and up to 7 hours of video playback. For connectivity, the Redmi 5A supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 4G LTE, Infrared and a micro USB port.
The Redmi 5A will be available in Dark Grey, Gold, and Rose Gold color variants and will go on sale starting December 7. Additionally, buyers will get a no cost-EMI option starting at Rs 243 with the device. The smartphone will be available via Flipkart and Mi.com, and Mi Home Stores from December 7.
