The third quarter of 2016 has been the best for the smartphone industry as it witnessed the highest ever number of smartphones shipped into India - 32.3 million. Among smartphone makers, Xioami has constantly managed to sell about 1 million to 1.5 million smartphones every quarter this year.
Apart from the strong online presence, the expansion in offline space has also contributed to the company's success in the smartphone market. "Mi India has been warmly welcomed by users, which is why we are one of the fastest growing brands in the smartphone industry today - one out of every four smartphones sold online was Xiaomi,” Jain told ET.
According to International Data Corporation (IDC) report, currently, Xiaomi is on the fourth spot in India smartphone shipment rankings. Xiaomi has achieved a market share of 7.4 percent in India, behind Samsung, Lenovo, and Micromax.
During the Diwali sale, Xiaomi managed to sell nearly 250,000 smartphones in just three days, whereas last year, the company took nearly 100 days to sell these many units.
Recently, Xiaomi had also announced that it had sold over 2.3 million units of the Redmi Note 3, and over a million units of the Redmi 3s and Redmi 3s Prime smartphones.
The company recently opened a manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh. Stepping forward, Xiaomi plans to open more units in partnership with Foxconn hoping to beat the Indian smartphone maker, Micromax, in the next quarter.
