MUMBAI, INDIA: Apple will unveil its latest iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus in India on October 16—the consumer giant’s fastest iPhone rollout ever for the Indian market.
While the new devices have cracked all previous records of Apple sales (Apple announced that both the new iPhone models sold more than 13 million units in the first three days), it remains to be seen whether the products do as well in India.
Let us look at why the new devices will fly off the shelves:
• The Apple mania: Apple is a premium brand in the country, inspires awe among both buyers and seers, and is a status symbol for users.
• Festive season: The OND quarter marks the festive season in India, and the right pricing and placement of products will help Apple to leverage the festivities in the country. (Apple has still not disclosed the pricing for the Indian market.)
• Expanded distribution network: Apple's distribution partners Ingram Micro have now confirmed that the new iPhones will be sold in more than 2500 retail locations across 80 plus cities the country. The phone will go on sale at 12AM on Friday, October 16.
• Specs: The 6S has the 4.7-inch display of its predecessor and the 6S Plus which updates one of the more popular handsets in the phablet category has the same 5.5-inch screen.
But the devices have more powerful processors that allow for improved graphics, harder glass and a new aluminum body.
• The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus have the same overall dimensions as the previous versions, but with new technologies under the hood. One of the key new features is called 3D touch, which responds to pressure exerted on the screen to allow users to look inside messages and applications.
• Apple is also using a new flash technology for the front camera, where the flash is the screen itself. The phone runs on Apple's latest mobile operating system iOS 9, which has a number of privacy centric features, a better Siri voice assistant and a new adaptive assistant called the proactive assistant.
• Pricing: According to Price Baba, the 16 GB iPhone 6S is likely to cost Rs 62,000, while the 64 GB and 128 GB models will cost Rs 72,000 and Rs 82,000 respectively.
• As far as the iPhone 6S Plus which has a larger and sharper display and has a better camera with an optical stabilizer goes, the 16 GB model is said to cost Rs 72,000, while the 64 GB and 128 GB models will cost Rs 82,000 and Rs 92,000 respectively.
