Reliance Jio's 4G VoLTE budget smartphone that was launched in 2017, had some amazing features but the lack of WhatsApp support on the handset was a major concern for most users. However, the social messaging company has reportedly been spotted working on a KaiOS version of the app, which will bring the support for JioPhone users.
As per WABetaInfo, a Twitter account that tracks changes in WhatsApp’s beta builds, the company is working on developing an app for the KaiOS. The JioPhone runs on KaiOS, a web-based operating system designed for the JioPhone which has been forked from Firefox OS.
In its blog post, WABetaInfo wrote, "Important references about the development of a new native KaiOS app had been found in the latest WhatsApp beta for Windows Phone 2.18.38, indicating the presence of a new platform that can be connected to WhatsApp servers.”
While there is no word on the functionalities that WhatsApp will bring to JioPhone or when it will be launched, the news that it is finally going to be available on JioPhone will definitely bring smiles for users.
