Popular messaging platform, WhatsApp suffered a major global outage on Wednesday that lasted for several hours before being resolved. While, the Facebook owned company did confirm the outage in a media statement, it did not shed light on the reason behind it.
"Earlier today, WhatsApp users in all parts of the world were unable to access WhatsApp for a few hours. We have now fixed the issue and apologize for the inconvenience," WhatsApp said in a statement to Reuters.
The affected regions included India, Canada, the U.S. and Brazil. WhatsApp enjoys huge popularity across globe with more than 1.2 billion users. The global outage made many express their angst and frustration on Twitter.

This isn't the first time WhatsApp users experienced such outage. Before this, a major outage happened on NewYear’s Eve in 2015 when the service broke down for a brief period in a number of locations worldwide.
