WhatsApp increases the time limit to delete unintentional sent messages

We all have regretted sending unintended messages to wrong recipients in WhatsApp many times followed by awkward apologies. But looks like, we finally have a fix for this problem. WhatsApp is launching a feature that will enable users to delete their messages permanently. The new feature called 'Delete for Everyone' is officially rolling out for iOS, Android and Windows phone users.

WhatsApp Delete for Everyone feature works in two ways- Delete for Everyone and Delete for Yourself. The former deletes the message in your chat and also the receiver’s chat, while the latter deletes the message only in your chat screen. The feature first reported by WABetaInfo says that to use the new feature both the sender and receiver should have the latest version of WhatsApp.

WhatsApp enables users to delete unintentional messages from the app

“You can only delete messages for everyone for up to seven minutes after sending. Once seven minutes have passed, there is no way to delete messages for everyone,” stated WhatsApp in the FAQ section. Additionally, messages you delete will be replaced with "This message was deleted" in the sender and receiver's chat.

The Messages sent in the Broadcast list do not support this feature currently and might be enabled in future. Delete messages for everyone works even in an individual chat or group chat. If you delete a message in the group, it will replace the text as message deleted by the user.

To access the new feature, open WhatsApp and go to the chat containing the message you wish to delete. Then tap and hold on the message. Click on Delete at the top of the screen, then tap on Delete for Everyone or Delete for Me depending on your choice.
