In a newly added feature, WhatsApp will add a Messenger room shortcut in the app. This feature will directly connect you to the Facebook Messenger room. WABetaInfo reported this feature is already out on WhatsApp web. It will soon come out on the iOS version.
What is the Messenger Room?
Recently, WhatsApp launched the feature to add up to 8 people in a video call. To make it even more, the app has integrated Facebook Messenger feature into the Android app.
Currently, the feature is country-specific, so everyone can't have access to it. It is available with the 2.20.163 Android beta version. This shortcut feature will replace the camera button in the drawer. Since it is a FB messenger feature, you will need the messenger app too. Also, this shortcut feature will be available in the Calls tab.
Rooms shortcut will replace the old Camera action. The camera action will be available in the chat bar. If you tap Rooms, WhatsApp will present an introduction of the feature. To know if you have the feature, go to the chat drawer and check if it contains the Rooms icon instead of the Camera.
Note: The feature is still not available in India. Upon updating, the feature will look like this:
Why should you use Messenger Rooms?
Messenger Rooms gives the possibility to create particular rooms where you can invite people in the rooms to join a video call. This feature does not need a Facebook account. In the 2.20.139 update, this feature was under development. Now, it will allow to quickly create a room, with a fast redirect to the Facebook Messenger app.
Do not confuse this feature with WhatsApp’s in-app group video calls. Because Messenger Rooms is a bigger platform with support for 50 people in one call. Here, you can create rooms and invite people to join them. Anyone with the room link can join the call, and you can also lock the room.
