The report stated, Navi Mumbai has registered average 4G speeds of 8.72Mbps. Chennai, placed in the second spot, saw its 4G speeds nearly double, rising to 8.52Mbps from 4.4Mbps registered in March last year. Meanwhile, at the other end, Allahabad was the only major city to register less than 4Mbps, as it recorded an average speed of just 3.5Mbps. Mumbai secured fifth place on the list with 6.97 Mbps average speed, followed by Hyderabad with 6.71 Mbps and Delhi with 6.69 Mbps.

The report also says that six out of top ten cities are from south and western regions. Navi Mumbai and Chennai are followed by Kolkata with the average 4G speed of 8.46 Mbps and Bangalore with 7.17 Mbps. OpenSignal calculated the speeds for 20 of India’s largest cities, but it’s by no means a comprehensive list of every city in India. So while Allahabad is at the bottom of the chart, it does not mean the city is the slowest city in the country – it’s the slowest of the 20 cities analyzed.

India is making giant strides in the 4G market, as the country has one of the largest 4G footprint in the world. In its State of LTE report, OpenSignal said that LTE availability in India is remarkable and users were able to connect to an LTE signal over 86 percent of the time, a rise of some 10 percentage points from a year earlier.
