Vodafone Idea Ltd (VIL) is one of India's leading telecom operator providing services under the brand ‘Vi’. The company has appointed Jagbir Singh as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). He will be replacing Vishant Vora, who quit in October citing personal reasons. Under this role, Singh will focus on network upgradation and expansion especially in priority 16 circles where the telco wants to gain new subscribers.
About Jagbir Singh
Singh was most recently working as Group CTIO at Smartfren Telecom, Indonesia. There he was responsible for Network, IT /digital platforms and enterprise business. Before that, he worked as the Group CTO of Reliance Jio and helped it launch 4G services in the country. Prior to that, Singh was working with Samsung. He has also previously worked with Airtel for about a decade.
"Jagbir is a highly experienced telecom technology professional with over 30 years’ experience across India and South East Asia. He has been Group CTO with different telecom operators. He has led technology platforms across 4G LTE, 3G/2G, Datacenter, Open RAN, IP/MPLS, CDN, NFV/SDN, OSS/BSS for mobile, fixed-line and enterprise networks," CEO and MD Ravinder Takkar said in an internal note.
Takkar added that Singh led inter-generational technology & architecture transformations. Further, he has been involved in very large 4G network rollouts and operations. "Jagbir is a very well-known Technology Leader and brings considerable credibility, reputation in the industry and deep operational expertise." "Following our announcement of Vishant's leaving. I am glad to inform you that Jagbir Singh will be joining us as CTO," Takkar added.
Vodafone Idea CTO Vishant Vora had resigned to return home to the US. As CTO, the company said, Vora played a significant role in accomplishing this exercise over the last two years. “He has now decided to return home to the US. We wish him the best for the future,” the company had said. He was in the Mumbai office till October 31st.
