The UGC will issue Guidelines for final year exam today. The lag is due to them waiting for the Kuhad Committee report. The central varsity of Haryana heads the Kuhad panel. He will look into various aspects of the situation and submit suggestions on final year exams to the UGC. Once the committee submits the report, the Commission will take its call based on the report.
This was the same committee that made a report for UGC in May after. Due to that report, the university decided to conduct the final year exam and promote the intermediate year students. As per the recommendation, the students were to be promoted based on past performance and internal assessments.
We expected UGC to decide on July 1 but they keep pushing it. In that development, GTU also issued a new timetable one day before their exams were supposed to happen. The UP government had also said that it will decide on university exams on July 2 based on the UGC recommendations.
About the UGC-Kuhad panel
The HRD Ministry had asked UGC last week to revisit its May guidelines. In a similar move, the HRD Ministry also formed another panel yesterday to check on the feasibility to conduct the JEE Main and NEET UG examination, report for which will come out today.
We expect the University Grants Commission to release the revised guidelines on examinations and admissions soon. Universities across the county are waiting for a final call from the commission before deciding on their future course.
Four states, though, - Maharashtra, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana - have decided to cancel the university and college exams in their state including the final year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students have been requesting the HRD Minister through social media to cancel all the exams or to postpone them.
