Uber's ship continues to steer through rough waters. In line with recent departures, another top Uber executive, Sherif Marakby, VP of global vehicle program has called it quits. Marakby played an instrumental role in launching Uber’s self-driving program in Pittsburgh.

The news was first reported by Automotive News, but no one knows about Marakby's reasons to leave the company that he joined only last year. “Sherif’s deep experience and knowledge of the automotive industry have helped us tremendously in working to make self-driving cars a reality,” an Uber spokesperson said in a statement to TechCrunch.

Prior to Uber, Marakby had a 25-year long stint with Ford, where he was the director of global electronics and engineering. “Self-driving is one of the most interesting challenges I’ve worked on in my career, and I’m grateful to have contributed to what will soon be a safer future for everyone,” Marakby said in a statement.

From former president Jeff Jones to former head of communications Rachel Whetstone, to Gary Marcus, head of Uber’s AI Lab, Uber has witnessed a spate of top-level exits in recent months. Meanwhile, Uber has confirmed that Marakby is not leaving because of the company policies and its legal tussle with Waymo.
