Uber Essential: Now available in five Indian cities

Since many people are stuck indoors and the government has banned all public transport, it is difficult for people to go out even for important tasks. In this view, Uber Technologies has launched the new service- Uber Essential. The company initially piloted it in Nashik only. But now, Uber Essential riders in Bengaluru, Gurgaon, Nashik, Mumbai and Hyderabad can ride on Uber.

You can open the app to check the availability of the service in their area and accessible locations nearby. This App will facilitate urgent travel needs to essential service areas only.

To request for Uber Essentials:

- Download the app – Get the free Uber app from the App Store or Google Play on your smartphone and open the app to create your account.

- Request a ride – Riders can check the availability of Uber Essential in their area and the accessible locations nearby. You’ll always see the price upfront.

- Track the driver: You’ll see your driver’s picture and vehicle details and can track their arrival on the map.

What is in it for users?

This limited mobility solution provides transportation facilities for riders to essential service locations such as hospitals, pharmacies and grocery stores. The mobility will be subject to permission and approval by local authorities. Uber is undertaking all precautionary measures, as advised by public health authorities.

Uber Essential driver-partners are being provided masks, gloves, sanitisers and safety training. Local law enforcement authorities have issued curfew passes to drivers to ensure seamless movement to essential service locations. Uber Essential drivers have been specially trained and issued curfew passes to ensure seamless movement.

Uber Essential riders will also receive reminders through in-app messages and emails about basic steps they can take to help prevent the spread of the virus. In lieu, Uber has asked all riders on Uber Essential to carry relevant documentation to validate their purpose of travel.
