After the successful testing of Twitter Lite in the Philippines, the company is now rolling out the app in 24 new countries across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America. Twitter Lite minimizes data usage, which makes it more accessible in regions with poor internet connectivity or where data plans are too expensive.
According to Twitter Product Manager, Jesar Shah their experiment in the Philippines resulted in 50 percent increase in tweets. Twitter Lite loads quickly on 2G and 3G and also offers offline support in case you temporarily lose your connection. The app also minimizes data usage and offers a data saver mode to download selected videos or images that you want to see.
The full list of countries where Twitter Lite is being made available is Algeria, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Egypt, Israel, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Malaysia, Nigeria, Nepal, Panama, Peru, Serbia, El Salvador, South Africa, Thailand, Tunisia, Tanzania and Venezuela. The app size for Twitter Lite is less than 3 megabytes.
