Twitter has acquired London-based Magic Pony Technology reportedly for $150mn to enhance the image, and live video sharing.
The company has developed machine learning techniques for visual processing on web, desktop and mobile. Twitter will use the technology to improve the visual experiences across the apps.
"Magic Pony’s technology will be used to enhance our strength in live and video and opens up a whole lot of exciting creative possibilities for Twitter," said Jack Dorsey, CEO and co-founder Twitterin a blog post.
Magic Pony has expertise across computer vision, machine learning, high-performance computing, and computational neuroscience. The company holds over 20 international patents.
The team will be joining Twitter Cortex- a team of engineers, data scientists, and machine learning researchers.
Twitter's Other investments in machine learning include the acquisitions of Madbits in July 2014 and Whetlab in June 2015.
