In a bid to protect consumer interests, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has launched three new mobile applications that will help users track their call and data quality. It has also launched a portal and revamped its website, making it easier for customers to access information.
TRAI MyCall App, MySpeed app, and Do-not-disturb 2.0 are the three apps that will collect feedback in real time from over 1 billion mobile users and send them to service providers so they can improve their quality of service.
The MyCall Android app will allow users to rate the quality of their phone call in real time on a scale from one star to five stars. The app will also have a few questions regarding whether the users were outside, or inside and whether they were travelling.
The regulator has launched a new version of TRAI MySpeed App that will enable the regulator to obtain test-driven data from users in all service areas, without any action by the users.
"These tests would be brief, very infrequent for a specific device, free to the user and anonymous. The user may also do a test and submit the results, as before," the regulator said.
It also launched DND 2.0 App (Do Not Disturb) Services app that will help smartphone users to register their mobile number under DND to avoid unsolicited commercial communication/ telemarketing calls/ SMS.
Trai has also launched a portal on which service providers such as cable operators, DTH operators and multi-system operators must register. This portal will allow information to be broken down and sent to operators and put all information gathered from the operators in one place for users to access with ease.
