India has been facing tensions on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. In this wake, India has done a digital strike on China. The government has decided to ban on 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok. These are the apps who have the potential to spread malware or spyware.
To ban these apps, the Government used Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. The article states that the CG has the power to impose reasonable restrictions on this right and intercept, decrypt or monitor Internet traffic or electronic data whenever there is a threat to national security, national integrity, the security of the state, and friendly relations with other countries, or in the interest of public order and decency, or to prevent incitement to the commission of an offence.
The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs has also sent an exhaustive recommendation for blocking these malicious apps including the lip-syncing app Tiktok.
Are they dangerous?
Well, for one instance, Apple had caught TikTok paying on millions of users. Forbes first reported the news. There, the author did personal research on both the problem and responses. Security researchers Talal Haj Bakry and Tommy Mysk caught a malfunction in China’s TikTok. At the time, TikTok owner Bytedance told the author that the problem was related to the use of an outdated Google advertising SDK that was being replaced.
The also submitted an updated version to Apple, but they were spying. Many Reddit users that are tech enthusiast have also added to the fire to stop using Chinese apps. But a large part of these companies' user base is from India, especially TikTok. While it will be a relief from nonsensical videos, this will anger a lot of regular users.
