As the b-c-b becomes the new business norm, enterprises are making a shift away from infrastructure to application-based, and the economy too is taking a similar shape, toward application economy.
In a recent survey, CA Technologies found that 94 percent organizations were compelled to release more apps and update software more frequently; a majority of them release 4 major apps (with intended business outcome) per annum or one per quarter.
“That is where the operations need to be agile. If the connect between the development to ops is slow, people leave the brand. The release cycle of Indian companies is a waterfall model; a sequential process driven model. But if the waterfall model of the app cycle is not agile, the business cannot transform into a successful application economy,” informs Abhilash Purushothaman, Country Director, Enterprise Management Business, CA Technologies, India.
How does application economy impact the value chain?
There is certainly a shift in models, says Purushothaman. “Business has stopped making the pitch for turnkey solutions. Instead, they are talking about business outcomes through increased revenues and faster releases and not about cutting costs!!”
Who will drive it?
A lot of IT houses will transform into apps-driven business and therefore, it is important that IT managers and CIOs should start behaving like heads of R&D organization.
