Telangana govt. and Nasscom to set up a Data Science and AI CoE

The Government of Telangana has signed an MoU with The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) to establish a Centre of Excellence for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CoE – DS&AI) in the state.

The centre will be set up with an initial joint investment of Rs 40 crore and will be established on a public-private partnership model.

KT Rama Rao, Minister for IT, Industries, MA & UD, NRI Affairs said that Telangana will be the first State in India to bring Artificial Intelligence in Public Health Screening and he is excited about how technology has the potential to make a great social impact. He further added that this partnership with Nasscom gives the government the opportunity to create large scale employment opportunity and the government will make sure students and youth are well equipped to benefit from this CoE.

"... the CoE is the most recent addition to Nasscom's 'hub-and-spoke' network of CoEs across major locations in the country, aimed at evangelising new and emerging technologies," said Nasscom president R Chandrashekhar. It will serve as a platform for intelligence-sharing and technology collaboration between stakeholders, to build collective capabilities for the industry and country in the cutting-edge areas of data science and artificial intelligence, he added.

According to Nasscom, the data science and artificial intelligence industry in India (IT and non-IT industries) is expected to be worth $16 billion by 2025, and is likely to spur an additional employment of 150,000 professionals in the country.

The partnership was signed on the sidelines of the ongoing World Conference of Information Technology and Nasscom India Leadership Forum in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
