BANGALORE, INDIA: Chennai-born Sundar Pichai, is the new CEO of Google.
Sundar Pichai joined Google in 2004 and was in charge of product and engineering for the company’s internet businesses. Then had taken charge from Andy Rubin who was co-founder and former chief executive of both Danger Inc. and Android Inc and senior VP of mobile and digital content at Google until March 2013.
Pichai's responsibilities as CEO will include search business, YouTube and the Android and Chrome operating systems
Google has also announced its new venture Alphabet, which will contain subsidiaries to separate its web advertising business from newer ventures like driverless cars, drone deliveries and other ambitious projects of the conglomerate.
"This new structure will allow us to keep tremendous focus on the extraordinary opportunities we have inside of Google," said co-founder and CEO Larry Page in a blogpost.
Highlighting the importance of Alphabet, he also added, "Alphabet Inc. will replace Google Inc. as the publicly-traded entity and all shares of Google will automatically convert into the same number of shares of Alphabet, with all of the same rights. Google will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alphabet. Our two classes of shares will continue to trade on Nasdaq as GOOGL and GOOG."
The company has announced that the effect will take later this year.
