Snapchat rolled out a major redesign of its app and faced a lot of backlash after throwing users for a loop with its decision to show Stories in an algorithmically sorted feed, rather than chronological order. The company now is rolling back the redesign (at least for some users) and instead showing Snapchat Stories in reverse chronological order once again, as TechCrunch reported.
The new update shows the most recent Stories first which makes them predictable and coherent to browse. As per TechCrunch, some users are now seeing the reverse chronological ordering of Stories both in the version of the app where there are separate Stories and Chat tabs, as well as the design where there are only Stories and All tabs.
Snapchat's much talked about redesign completely overhauled the Stories page, which showcases photos and videos from friends, as well as content from professional publishers. These ephemeral stories appear for 24 hours before they are permanently deleted from the messenger.
The problem with Snapchat's reverse chronological order was that it gave an advantage to users who are frequent Snapchat users. The move drew in lot of flak. Though Evan Spiegel earlier said that the redesign is here to stay, looks like he's finally paid some heed to the users' reviews.
