It's no secret that Instagram Stories, which has been a game changer for the photo-sharing app, was cloned from Snapchat. The Facebook-owned company didn't even bother to modify the name; it was simply lifted from Snapchat Stories and pasted to Instagram Stories.
Though it's been more than a year, and Facebook hasn't yet stopped its copying-spree, Snapchat so far maintained a gracious silence over the matter. But, as they say, every dog has it's day. And the day was April Fool's day, and Snapchat didn't let go of the golden opportunity.

Snapchat FINALLY took a stab at Instagram with this filter & I'm living for this petty (not so petty) war. pic.twitter.com/DEmBXOgCUl — Francesca Manto (@_fmanto) April 2, 2017
Oh my god Snapchat's April 1 is an Instagram clone filter 😂😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/kBOyGhOUFk — Owen ⚡️ (@ow) April 1, 2017
To take a jab on Instagram, Snapchat copied Instagram. Yes, on April 1st, one of Snapchat's filter included Instagram’s interface and they also changed “Snapchat” to “Instagram” at the top. Click a picture and then swipe to the right side about ten times, and you will see a familiar interface on your screen.
While Facebook has been copying Snapchat for months, Snapchat's April Fools' filter is the first time it's actually responded to the matter.
Many online publications did April Fools’ Day pranks, for instance, check ours here. But Snapchat's prank was one of the most audacious and obviously most fun April Fool's Day pranks of 2017.
