Microsoft is testing an ultimate communication hub for Android users. Currently, in alpha mode, "Skype Mingo" is designed as an alternative to the default messaging app for functions like calling, texting, and contact management. Or we should say, the new app is Microsoft's attempt to make Skype the default app.
According to MSPoweruser, Skype Mingo is the "souped-up version of the Skype app". You can use the dialler app or messaging app, with almost same features of Skype app.
With numerous bots and blue and white colour design, Skype Mingo can help with a variety of tasks, like finding flights (Skyscanner, Hipmunk), tickets (Stubhub), nearby businesses (Foursquare), searching the web (Bing News, Bing Images), tracking packages (UPS), playing games, and more.
Though the Redmond-based company is yet to comment, company’s spokesperson said, “As part of the ongoing improvements to deliver the best Skype experience possible, we are always innovating and occasionally test out new features and functionality. We have nothing more to share at this time.”
Previously, Skype has been planning to bring SMS relay to Android users. With Skype Mingo, the company has begun to double down on its attempts to bring SMS relay - the ability for Windows 10 users to send SMS through their PCs - to Android users.
"While SMS relay isn’t present here, this app supports SMS and can be used as a standalone SMS client to replace Google Messenger, Textra or what have you," MSPoweruser notes.
In the Google Play store, Microsoft claims that Skype Mingo is “small and fast” while offering data-saving features like “Economical Calling” and “On-Demand Sync.” Users can also view their usage statistics in the Skype Mingo app, to stay informed.
As the app is still in alpha mode, users cannot take advantage of the complete features. However, for those who want to try, download the app from here.
