The 1987 batch UP cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer replaces Rajendra Kumar, a 1992 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS who recently moved back to his home cadre. The appointment is part of an on-going reshuffle to fill up several vacant positions in DEITY.

On Monday, former additional secretary of department of commerce JS Deepak took over as DEITY Secretary while additional secretary (e-governance) Tapan Ray was appointed as Secretary of Corporate Affairs. However, Ray’s post is yet to be filled. The post of director general of National Informatics Centre (NIC) has also been lying vacant for over a year.

Given Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s penchant for digital, the ministry should be filling up the vacancies soon.
