Samsung has just announced that the voice capabilities of its digital assistant- Bixby are now rolling out to Galaxy S8 and S8+ owners in the US. Till now the voice support feature of Bixby was available to the Koreans, and for the US users, it was available on a trial basis to those who had pre-registered for the same.
Bixby could be activated with a push of the dedicated Bixby button located on the side of Galaxy S8 and S8+ or by simply saying "hi Bixby". Bixby can handle alarms, send texts, read aloud your SMS messages and emails. It also has the ability to access your phone settings or simply move through several menu screens to perform commands that Google Assistant can't do.
“Almost anything you could do with touch or typing, you can now do with your voice,” Samsung said of the new capabilities for Bixby, adding that third-party support will come next. Samsung has not yet announced when Bixby's voice capabilities will be expanded to other countries across the world.
Samsung has already started adding Bixby to its range of smart refrigerators highlighting its vision to make the AI an Alexa competitor designed to tie its various product lines including smartphones and smart television sets into a single cloud-connected ecosystem.
