CIOL Samsung launches a Limited Edition Galaxy S7 Edge for Rio Olympics

Samsung is pushing Olympics enthusiasts to show their support through mobile phones. Samsung Electronics, Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category, has launched an Olympic Games Limited Edition of its Galaxy S7 Edge handset along with Rio 2016 app which will provide athletes, fans and consumers with 24/7 updates on all of the latest Olympic news.

The South Korea-based company has also handed out 12,500 of the phones to Olympian participants. Starting from 18th July, a limited number (2,016) of handsets will be available to the fans and consumers in the selected countries including Brazil, the United States, China, Germany, and Korea.

Athletes will also receive Samsung’s newest smartphone accessory, the Gear IconX cord-free earbuds, which offer a new fitness experience with an in-ear heart rate monitor and standalone music player. When paired with smartphones, they can track fitness updates through the S Health app.

The Rio 2016-inspired device includes an Olympic Games design embossed into the phone itself, emphasizing a custom colorway pattern covering the five official colours of the Olympic Rings. The Olympic Ring colours are also noticeable in the phone’s user interface. Pre-loaded Rio 2016 Olympic Games themed wallpapers will also be available.

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach said, "With Samsung’s support, we look forward to inspiring people everywhere with Olympic Values, the unique experience of the Olympic Games and the power of sport.”

The company is also creating a special Paralympic Galaxy S7 edge edition for the 2016 U.S. Paralympic Team.
