According to several reports, where people have said to have spoken with spokespeople of Reliance Jio, the company is stated to launch the Jio Laptop or JioBook in May-June, during the AGM. The conglomerate is in partnership with tech giant Google, for making the JioBook, state the reports. Reliance had earlier, in its first virtual AGM, had announced Google's investment to build Jio Smartphone. Now, reports suggest that Jio will use the fund to also launch JioBook, the budget laptop.
According to an ET report that cites executives close to the matter, Jio and Google are still finalising the version of the Android the smartphone should feature. The smartphone will run on Android Go or JioOS. JioOS is the company's inhouse development in the line of Android and iOS. Talking of the partnership for making smartphones, Mukesh Ambani, in the last AGM had said, “Reliance Jio has sold 100 million Jio Phones to date. But there are many feature phone users waiting to upgrade to a conventional smartphone. We believe we can design an entry-level 4G or even a 5G smartphone. We believe that we can design such a phone at a fraction of the current cost. Google and Jio are partnering to build a value-engineered Android-based smartphone Operation System.”
The laptop could be an answer to the ever-increasing need for digitisation, that this, and coming generations face.
About the JioBook
The JioBook, which will run not on Windows, but Jio OS, comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 665. Further, like our phones, it will come in two variants; one with 2 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage and 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of storage. The Jio Laptop will also have preloaded Jio Content like JioStore, JioMeet, JioPages, and Jio’s ad services. Reports suggest that there are also several apps from Microsoft pre-installed, including Microsoft Teams, Edge, and Office. The laptop will probably come with a mini HDMI connector for video output, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a three-axis accelerometer and a Qualcomm audio chip.
It is basically everything that our android phones have, plus the size of a laptop. Thus, what the laptop is, we probably will know at the AGM.
