If cartographers are asked to redraw world map on the basis of each country’s online population, many countries in the world will lose considerable ground from the map. According to Oxford University’s Internet Institute’s visualization using 2013 data from the World Bank, Europe will grow huge in size given its vast number of internet users while many African nations will disappear from the map.

The map shows that only 1/3rd of the world’s population have internet access. Though India and China has a huge number of web users- 190 million and 600 million respectively, the percentage compared to their huge population computes out to be low.

According to the data, China has the highest number of internet users in the world followed by the United States (270 million), India and Japan (110 million).

Only five other countries namely Japan, South Korea, Bahrain, Qatar and UAEwere found having more than 80 percent people online outside of Europe, North America and Oceania.
