“Countdown begins. Few hours to go!” read a tweet from PUBG Mobile India fan club account on November 20. It proposed that the game will be available on Google Play Store and for APK download separately with-in next few hours. On 21st, the account again showed that the game was on Play Store. But then nothing happened. And mind this, that PUBG Corporation did not make any of these announcements. So, it broke the hearts of the PUBG-fans who have been eagerly waiting for the game re-launch since the day Indian Government banned it, and later it took down its servers.
The reality of PUBG Mobile relaunch in India
The PUBG Corporation nor anyone associated with the game has officially announced the timeline of the launch. Plus, it is unlikely that the game will be launched after the Indian Government banned it with a circular. If just changing the partners will release the banned apps from the ban, it opens a very big loophole for the other 200+ apps that the Indian government banned.
Thus, without any official intimation by the promoters and the Indian Government, the game cannot launch. Moreover, look at the comments made by PUBG Corporation on the relaunch in the past few weeks
1. On November 12, PUBG Corporation talked about what measures it will be taking measures to secure the data of users. The company also announced that it has partnered with Krafton holdings to fund PUBG. It also announced a new name - PUBG Mobile India.
2. On November 14, i.e. Diwali, Instagram the official handle stated "PUBG Mobile Coming Soon". But this post again did not have any timelines. The same day, again, marked a trailer launch, where it gave no concrete launch dates.
Like we said before, the prospect of PUBG Mobile India re-launch looks meek. But there is nothing concrete to stop the players. Despite the ban, users found a way around it. Users downloaded different versions of the game, updated them through APK files and then used VPN to play the game They even went around trying new games and then went back to playing PUBG having tried out other games. Thus, the ban stood impractical.
Yet, the Indian Government is steadfast on the ban, and they can't give out the message that changing data storage and sharing policies is the only way to get around the ban.
