You cannot deny the unprecedented rage and fervor that Pokémon Go has generated across the world. The augmented reality-based game became the top grossing app on the same day it was launched, and shortly after it became the biggest mobile game in the US history; beating Candy Crush, Draw Something, and Clash Royale.
Perhaps for the first time, a game has been able to capture the imagination of such wide and diverse audience. And these aren’t just sweeping statements that I am making. To demonstrate just how huge Pokémon Go has become, marketing research company Touchstone Research has put together all the numbers highlighting some of the game’s most impressive achievements.
“The success of Pokémon Go can most likely be attributed to the ease of use and the wide fan base of the Pokémon franchise, which appeals to older nostalgic fans and to kids and teens who are playing the current generation of Pokémon games,” Touchstone explains. “The significant adoption of Pokémon Go is a very good sign of things to come for AR technology and gaming alike.”
Hopefully, we will soon have some more interesting games based on AR technology from not just Niantic but other players too.
