NEW DELHI, INDIA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is depending on pet Chai pe Charcha as an amicable proposal to break the impasse over the Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill.
It must be noted that the Congress had stalled the passage of the GST Constitution Amendment Bill in the last session of Parliament and demanded that a revenue-neutral rate not higher than 18 percent be levied on GST. It was also opposed to the powers given to a states to levy an additional 1 percent tax on the supply of goods over and above the GST rate.
The GST, when implemented will create a single market in India after doing away with state levies and the move is expected to boost the economy.
