We wish this was a faking news, but this is a brutal twist of fate that a 22-year-old committed the deadly sin of giving in to his 'desires' within the sacred walls of Church and could now serve a 'jail-term' for up to five long years.
Good intentions gone wrong
In a classic case of 'good intention gone wrong', a Russian YouTuber, Ruslan Sokolovsky was arrested for trying to catch a Poliwag in the Church of All Saints in Yekaterinburg at the beginning of August 2016 and posting the video online.
Apparently, Sokolovsky just wanted to prove that playing Pokemon Go in a church is neither offensive nor against state laws. But, we guess, State has other ideas.
As you can see in the video, which already has been watched over 900,000 times, Sokolovsky first refers to reports of people being warned that playing Pokémon Go in the Church premises could land them in jail. "Who can ever be offended by you walking around a church with your smartphone?" he asks at the start of his video. "Why the f*ck would they lock you up for that?" he adds.
Ironic turn of events
But, in an ironic turn of events, the vlogger was arrested within weeks of posting the video and put under house arrest until his court appearance. He has been charged with inciting hatred and offending religious sensibilities and apparently could be made to spend the prime of his youth in jail.
Reports suggest that the 22-year old is being tried under the same statute that landed Russian feminist punk band Pussy Riot in jail back in 2012.
#FreeSokolovsky
Thankfully, Sokolovsky isn't fighting a lone battle. Besides the Human rights organisation Amnesty International, many Russian fans and activists have joined in on the #FreeSokolovsky hashtag, including Pussy Riot.

Pokemon Go- The undercover agent
Strangely and honestly quite comically, Russian government believes that the game, which hasn't been officially released in Russia might be tied to foreign intelligence services. And, hence all their paranoia.
But keeping it all aside, we pray for Sokolovsky's release and a gentle reminder to you all- Please do not try this at a Church near you.
