Joining the ever expanding list of high profile exits from India’s biggest online retailer- Mukesh Bansal, Ankit Nagori, Amod Malviya, Sujeet Kumar, Paroma Chatterjee - Peeyush Ranjan, former CTO of Flipkart has put in his resignation papers and will leave the company by the end of December.
Along with Ranjan, Vice-president and private label head, Mausam Bhatt has also quit the company. While Ranjan will be joining online rental platform Airbnb Inc. in the US, Bhatt’s next move is still unclear.
Ranjan, a former Google executive said, “During my stint at Flipkart, I led several technological advancements including opening the biggest data centers in India, pioneering progressive web app technology, and most importantly scaling up the company’s infrastructure.”
He further added, “After being elevated to group CTO, unforeseen things made me move to the United States. And since moving back to the USA was a key requirement, I decided to find a suitable opportunity there.”
Adarsh Menon, who headed Flipkart’s electronics business, will replace Bhatt as the head of Flipkart’s yet-to-be-launched private-label business. Flipkart’s current engineering chief Ravi Garikipati will take over the responsibilities of Ranjan.
Flipkart has already seen seven top-level exits in 2016. According to Livemint, "The departures are also an indication that Flipkart’s decision in late 2014 to replace its old management team in one sweep with high-profile recruits from more established companies may have backfired."
From the old management team, Flipkart brought back Kalyan Krishnamurthy as business head, formerly a managing director at Flipkart's Tiger Global Management.
