34-year old Padmini Pagadala who is associate director of designs at Flipkart replaced Kalyan Krishnamurthy as the CEO of the India's largest e-commerce marketplace on Tuesday. Before you jump to any conclusions, the appointment was just for a day.
As part of its 10th-anniversary celebration "Big10," Flipkart held a competition where its employees could take part and become the CEO of the company for one day. And as Pagadala won the competition, she played the part of CEO taking stock of business strategies, and attending regular meetings with Krishnamurthy accompanying her.
An industrial engineer from Georgia Institute of Technology, Pagadala comes from a strong supply chain background and said that it was important for both buy and supply-side teams to talk to each other. “I am CEO for a day and shadowing someone as humble as Kalyan has been a learning experience,“ said Pagadala, responsible for designing almost all of 17 fulfilment centres at the company.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for our talented Flipsters to get a taste of what it means to be CEO of a large, innovative company like Flipkart. We have a talented pool of people leading high-intensity teams who are helping us disrupt and innovate," said Kalyan Krishnamurthy in a statement.
India's startup poster boy is completing a decade this year, and the company is making it with Big10 Celebrations with each month dedicated to a specific initiative. Apparently, there are surprises planned for customers, partners, sellers as well in the coming days.
