CIOL Now it will be Google Assistant vs. Siri.

Google Assistant, which has only been available on selected Android phones and Google Home so far, is reportedly planning to make entry into iOS. Citing a source familiar with the matter, Bloomberg report says the tech giant is expected to announce this addition at Google's I/O conference this week.

The annual Google I/O conference takes place on Wednesday through Friday near the company's global headquarters in Mountain View, California.

CIOL Now it will be Google Assistant vs. Siri.

The Google Assistant app for iPhone and iPad is expected to feature a chat interface and voice commands. However, as a third-party iOS app, all interactions with Assistant are likely to happen within the app. This means users will have to open the app first, not press a button or directly say 'Ok Google.' So, like digital assistants, Google Assistant on iOS will answer questions, send messages, and can handle basic actions on the phone.

According to the report, the feature will arrive first in the US, and Google is working on adding support for other countries in the future.

The same source also suggests that Assistant will also provide a boost to Google's famous Photos app and appliances, like refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, washers and dryers, too.

Google is yet to comment on this report. Though we don't know whether this is just a 'du jour' story, but by bringing Google Assistant to iOS, Google could potentially expand its reach into the huge base of iPhone users and expose them to the Google ecosystem.
