Though Apple is considered as one of the most secretive company in the tech industry, the virtual world keeps getting news and leaks about its future plans. This time, it's about Apple’s rumoured self-driving car division, reportedly called “Project Titan” that’s apparently changing its focus by shifting from making autonomous car to developing an autonomous driving system that gives Apple flexibility to partner with existing carmakers.

Reportedly, Apple has significantly scaled down its Project Titan. The process has included hundreds of job cut. What’s more, the company appears to have lost interest in building its own car and instead is focusing upon the system itself.

"Apple's Project Titan, has re-focused on developing an autonomous driving system that gives Apple flexibility to either partner with existing carmakers or returns to designing its own vehicle in the future," the Bloomberg report states citing people related to the move.

Considering the assured demand of the self-driving cars in the coming years, leaving the car-building to established automakers and becoming a third-party provider of technology and software will definitely bring double incentives for Apple.

For the current project, Apple has kept staff numbers in the team steady by hiring people to help with the new focus, according to another person.

According to Bloomberg, the company has given the latest car team a deadline of late next year to prove the feasibility of the self-driving system and decide on a final direction.

Though the 'new shift' looks like a sudden de-route to the spectators, Apple reached this decision after months of disagreements on various issues that also included problems in the supply chain.
