Ratan Tata has invested an undisclosed amount in MUrgency, a medical emergency response startup founded by India-born Shaffi Mather in Silicon Valley .
This unique startup launched its operations in the TriCity area of Punjab with a network of 36 hospitals, 40 ambulances, and over 350 medical professionals. MUrgency plans to deploy funds to expand its service to Amritsar and Jalandhar by the end of May and will service the entire state of Punjab by June.
Not to forget, in April, it had also raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Axilor Ventures Pvt. Ltd set up by Infosys Ltd co-founders Kris Gopalakrishnan and S.D. Shibulal.
“Mr. Tata's investment in MUrgency will help attract leading talent to the company and major partnerships beyond India,” says Shaffi Mather.
MUrgency was founded in 2014 in the Valley and incubated in Stanford ChangeLabs, launched its services in India in February 2016. Its mobile app makes emergency response available with just one tap on a mobile phone in under nine minutes in urban areas. Which is no less than miraculous.
Summing up their future plans, MUrgency founder says, it aims to make its service available across India by 2018 and across the world by 2020. It is interesting to note that this investment in MUrgency is Tata's fourth investment in the healthcare sector. It all began with backing health startup campaigns like Lybrate, Swasth India, and Invictus Oncology.
Ratan Tata has made more than 25 investments in start-ups in the last two years including big names like Snapdeal, Xiaomi, and others.
