Microsoft has announced that it is bringing Skype for Business to BMW cars that use iDrive system. Last year, BMW added Office 365 communications feature to its BMW 5 series and now it's adding Skype to it infotainment features that will allow users to hold Skype meetings in the car itself.

The functionality will be integrated and operated via BMW's iDrive system. The iDrive system is BMW’s computer system with a dashboard monitor that lets people control car features like mapping services and the radio. BMW will also enable tighter integration with calendars, contacts, and to-do lists all from Microsoft's Exchange service.

These services will be initially rolled out to Germany, France, and the UK and other markets would be added soon.

BMW also revealed earlier this year that it plans to bring Microsoft Cortana to its cars. The car maker is planning to let drivers access Cortana through dashboard screen, with an ability to easily access to-do list, reminders, news, events and other Cortana features.

By adopting Microsoft’s Office suite of productivity tools, including Office 365 and Skype for Business, BMW will give its drivers a new way to securely and safely extend their daily digital lives across their homes, cars and workplaces.
