LONDON, UK: Microchip Technology Incorporated, the microcontroller-vending company based in Chandler, Arizona, the United States, has bought ZeroG Wireless Incorporated, the embedded Wi-Fi fabless chip firm headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, the United States. The sale amount has not been disclosed.
Steve Caldwell, director (RF products division) of Microchip Technology Incorporated, said in a statement that the acquisition of ZeroG Wireless will help Microchip Technology add wireless communications to its microcontrollers.
According to Caldwell, there is an increasing need for Wi-Fi solutions in embedded applications and that the Wi-Fi solutions of ZeroG Wireless Incorporated are “tailor-made” for the embedded sector.
The acquisition of ZeroG Wireless also will make it easy for the microcontroller customers of Microchip Technology Incorporated to buy certified Wi-Fi modules and proven software as well as facilitate their embedded applications with Wi-Fi capability, Steve Caldwell explained in the statement.
