MUMBAI, INDIA: The digital security of the financial capital of the country, Mumbai got a recent push.
The Maharashtra government has earmarked a buget of Rs 940 crore for a city surveillance project involving 6,400 CCTV cameras, storage and related technologies.
The cameras installed at places that are more prone to accidents or criminal incidents (chain-snatching, etc) will have more storage capacity than those at other locations. Overall, the cameras will have a capacity to store videos for 7 to 21 days depending on the vulnerability of the place, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) K P Bakshi said.
The CCTVs will be monitored by all the police stations, the state secretariat at Mantralaya, the Mumbai Port Trust, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Three command centers will be established the Mumbai Police Commissioner's Office, the Disaster Recovery Command Centere in Kalina and the traffic police headquarters at Worli.
