HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal interviewed with the Indian Express. In it, he said that JEE Mains will be conducted in June. This is due to the extension of COVID-19 lockdown in the nation. The Central government imposed it to further control the spread of the fatal virus among the citizens of our country. The Government has extended the lockdown till May 3, 2020, as of now.

The original dates of the JEE Mains 2020 examination were April 5, 7, 9 and 11, 2020. Currently, the HRD ministry is in consultation with stakeholders such as the board of examinations and IITs. They expect to consult the MoHRD before they finalize and announce the next date of the examination. This includes the date of NEET. National Testing Agency (NTA) already announced the deferment of JEE 2020. The agency first said that they will hold the exams in May last week when the lockdown was supposed to end on 14th April.

Additionally, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank also said that they will reduce the burden on CBSE students. They will simplify the course. The CBSE is also trying to assess the loss of academic time of the students due to the lockdown. They will rationalise the syllabus for students of classes 9 to 12. The NCERT has also developed an alternative academic calendar for school students to engage them meaningfully during their stay at home due to lockdown. In the interview, Dr Nishank also said that portals like Swayam Prabha will available to students of class 10th and 12th.
He also talked about his plans that concern the students of IIT. IIT students lost their placements. For this, Dr Nishank said that he has talked to the directors of IIT to hold a special placement drive for the students.
