itel emerges as a strong rival to Gionee, Xiaomi and Oppo in India

The rise of emerging brands in the Indian smartphone market is on the rise. In 2015, emerging smartphone brands contributed 16% of the overall shipments, compared to mere 3% in 2013 and this year it is likely to contribute up to 25% of the overall shipment, according to a study by CMR.

While Gionee, Xiaomi, Oppo and Panasonic are some of the top emerging smartphone brands in India, there are some truly disruptive players as well, which gets highlighted by a recent CMR Mobilytiks report.

"Despite the smartphones growth, the fact that the emerging brands that are skewed towards feature phones portfolio are pecking high in order indicates that feature phones still have a long way to go even for emerging brands," said Faisal Kawoosa, principal analyst, Telecoms at CMR.
