iPhone 12 is still talk of the town and simultaneously Apple has managed to create the hype with iPhone 13. And, what's more? The iPhone 13 range is going to have a lot more than massive storage to recommend it. Apple has helpfully confirmed faster, more power-efficient 5G while in-display Touch ID, 120Hz ProMotion displays and (at last) a smaller notch. It was a community conversation that Samsung was upping its game next year. But it seems Apple is ready to respond in style.
Apple’s new iPhone 12 range launched with clear compromises in every model. So everyone set their eyes to the iPhone 13. First, a tip, then MacRumors, confirmed some specific features that Apple users await in the upcoming model.
Double the max storage that's available
Respected Apple leaker Jon Prosser has revealed the iPhone 13 line-up will increase the storage of its top tier models to a massive 1TB. That’s double the maximum 512GB capacity of the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Also, its 4x what’s available on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini.
Add 5G into the picture
MacRumors confirmed the 5G plans of Apple for the upcoming years. Moreover, it specifically confirms that Apple will use Qualcomm’s X60 5G modem in 2021. This also fixes the worst flaws in the iPhone 12 range, i.e the cost.
iPhone 12 is powered by Qualcomm’s X55 5G modem. This hardware not only carries a big price premium but also high power drain and limited international support. So, iPhone 13 upgrading to X60, will mean a better battery and connectivity. (We are not so sure of the price; maybe it will carry a charger xD.)
Touch ID uts
Apple insider L0vetodream cryptically tweeted that “MESA uts” is headed to the iPhone. Now, which Prosser decoded explaining that MESA is Apple’s internal name for Touch ID and ‘uts’ stands for ‘under the screen’. This also makes a lot of sense as Apple has been filing numerous in-display Touch ID patents for over a year.
Building on this, display specialist Ross Young reveals the iPhone 13 will reintroduce Touch ID (likely in-display and pandemic-driven) alongside Face ID, come with larger camera sensors than the iPhone 12 models and adopt LTPO panels.
Smol notch
Both Prosser and Ice Universe agree that Apple will finally reduce the size of the notch with iPhone 13. That said, they disagree on how this will happen. Ice Universe states that Apple will make it shallower (vertically) while Prosser understands that Apple will make it shorter (horizontally). The disagreement likely stems from Apple having multiple prototypes at this stage of development, something that has caused confusion before. Either way, it’s a win. (Forbes)
