Instagram Stories is finally starting to create a space of its own. Unlike adding more features from its rival Snapchat, Instagram has launched three new features this time around to add more appeal to its Stories feature.
Touted as Instagram's biggest update to stories since its launch, the three new add-ons are "links, mentions, and an inline version of its Boomerang tool".
1. Links:
Instagram now allows all verified users to attach hyperlinks to Instagram stories. With “see more” option on the bottom of the story, you’ll be able to load the link using Instagram’s in-app browser. This means you can check the link without leaving the app.
Nathan Sharp, an Instagram product manager told The Verge that the company added links to stories in response to a large number of brands using the feature to promote content on Instagram.
2. Mentions:
Just like you tag a friend in comment or caption, now you will be able to tag your friend in Instagram Stories also. Type "@" followed by your friends Instagram username, and you are done. Unlike 'Links', 'Mentions' is available to all users.
3. Boomerang:
From now onwards, you can click GIF style clips in Instagram stories. The Facebook-owned company has integrated Boomerang, its stand-alone app for making one-second videos. Now when you go to create a new story you can just swipe and opt to make a story in Boomerang mode.
Instagram is also expected to bring live videos to services. Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom told Financial Times, "Live is really exciting for us. I think it can enhance what we’re doing. If I’m trying to strengthen relationships with someone I love, them streaming video to me live would be an amazing way to be closer to them."
