In a recent tweet, IIT Kharagpur has announced that it is inviting students for PhD for the Autumn Intake 2020-21. The deadline for the application is April 30, 2020.

There are 5 programmes within the PhD title. IIT Kharagpur is only taking in for the last one. You can apply for the PhD Programme for Working Professionals. The tuition fee for this program will be Rs. 25000 per semester subject to revision.
How can you apply?
1. She/he should be having (at least) BTech/BE/MBBS/MSc degree (or equivalent degrees) from a reputed educational institution. It should be with a minimum 8 CGPAor 75% marks in their Bachelor’s as well as Masters’ degree (if applicable).
2. Two years of post-qualification experience
3. A NOC issued from their company, stating it has no issues with the candidate pursuing PhD under the scheme.
4. The minimum duration of the PhD program for such candidates is 3 years and the maximum tenure is 8 years from the date of enrolment.
5. The person should be working with a reputed company which will be decided by the Dean PGS&R, Dean UGS, Head of the
Department/Centre/School and the Chairman CDC. The company must be known to the faculty members of the organisation.
How will you pursue a PhD whilst working?
1. The coursework will require a minimum of 20 credit points (for candidates with Bachelors degree) and 16 credit points (for candidates with Masters degree).
2. A DSC will prescribe the plan of study according to your needs.
3. There will be self-study courses with standard format. A student will have to submit weekly or bi-weekly assignments on ERF. The student will have to take the consent of the subject teacher before registration for the same.
4. The candidate will have to appear for only the end semester examinations. It will usually be taken during the regular examination period of IIT Kharagpur.
5. The student will have to stay for at least one week per semester at IIT Kharagpur campus. Here, she/he will carry out lab work.
6. The candidate will have to submit a yearly progress report and appear for seminars every year after his/her registration. Also, the candidate will have to appear for a comprehensive examination (viva voce only) before registration seminar.
7. The candidate must have at least two publications in SCI journals/monographs before submitting the final synopsis.
