After IIT Delhi declared the results for JEE Advanced 2020, Director, V. Ramgopal Rao, took to Twitter to inform about the total number of seats available in IITs across the country. A total of 36,497 male and 6,707 women candidates have cleared the IIT JEE Advanced entrance. This year, there are a total of 16,053 seats in 23 IITs for JEE Advanced candidates, but students need not be discouraged.
This year, there are several changes. This includes the scrapping of a cut-off for class 12 marks, one less round for counselling among several others. The number of counselling rounds is now six instead of seven earlier. Thus, it will ensure timely admissions and the beginning of classes.
About Counselling
The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2020 counselling process has begun today, October 06, 2020. You can apply till tomorrow (October 7) on josaa.nic.in. The counselling process will happen for admission to 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs and 29 other Government-FundTechnical Institutes (GFTIs). Further, Candidates will get admissions on the basis of their JEE Main and JEE Advanced score.
Candidates have to register and select their choice of colleges and courses. Then, JoSAA will allot seats to them, into the participating IITs according to their ranks, preferences and availability of seats. The mock seat allocation date - October 12.

Process
Step 1: Go to the official website
2: Enter your JEE Main 2020 application number and password
3: Login and start the choice filling process by entering the required details
A candidate needs to fill option for ‘freeze’, ‘slide’ or ‘float’ the choice of the academic programme on the website. Once locked, a choice cannot be modified. Candidates who do not fill-in choices within the specified time window will not be able to seek admission for this academic year.
The first allocation list will come out on October 17, and the candidates can accept seats through ‘online reporting’. This also includes fee payment document upload and response by candidates to queries if any.
