ICAI is likely to cancel Chartered Accountancy (CA) exams 2020. The ICAI exams were scheduled to be held between July and August (postponed from May). This was due to rising cases of novel coronavirus across the country. Considering the worsening situation, the matter went to the Supreme Court. In between, SC asked ICAI to not be rigid on the OPT-OUT guideline. Now, it has ICAI to check with its centres if the exams will be possible.
In that case, ICAI has asked the Supreme Court till July 10 to contact exam centres. In the previous hearing, ICAI asked the court for some time to frame new guidelines and rules for the exams. It also said that for all ICAI exams, they have made provisions for safety and hygiene at all the exam centres. Further, they also said that they will make provisions for students to stay near the centres if they are from containment zones. According to reports, the ICAI had received several emails and requests from candidates regarding cancellation of exams due to Covid-19 pandemic.
But till then, we have to wait till July 10, to know what ICAI thinks. Here's the tweet from the PIL Lawyer:
Today I appeared in Supreme Court in our CA Exam PIL
At the outset,ICAI sought one week adjournment to check whether this Exam can be even conducted or not due to #COVID19 spike
SC accordingly directed ICAI to check if it is possible to conduct this Exam
Next hearing 10th July

Some enraged students have tweeted their displeasure on ICAI exams, too:
1. Students are not happy and they fear their lives. They want exams in November.
I feel like going to Delhi from Hyderabad to argue by putting questions to ICAI for which impossible to answer so that exams gets cancelled in July n November attempt gets materialised...

2. While the exam requires proper rest and study, students are stressed over exams.
#icaiexams Dear @theicai you’re playing with our minds like hell in last days of exam we used to study 10 hrs with full concentration now we use use to study not more than 2 hrs with no concentration almost 17days are over after u have given optout notification

3. They are mostly hopeless that ICAI will listen to them.
Today is an important day. But honestly I don't have expectations of justice or truth prevailing over ego and failed logic.
Brace yourself guys. All the best to us. #icaiexams

The ICAI had also given a chance to students to 'opt-out' of the exams. This way, they could carry forward their candidature to November 2020 exams. However, students staged a protest and filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the ICAI's decision. Similarly, students are also asking NTA to postpone JEE and NEET.
