The IBM Hack Challenge is a mega hackathon event. Every year, IBM hosts it at pan India level. It is an opportunity to showcase your coding talent, learn new technologies, enrich your resume and win exciting prizes.
Who can participate in the event?
The hackathon is open to all the engineering students in the country. All UG and PG engineering students of any engineering branch can participate. Just develop a team of 1-4 members and register here for IBM Hack Challenge.
How to register?
There are five problem statements. Of these five, participants have to derive a solution for one and submit it on the portal. Submit the following collaterals on www.github.com in a public GITHUB repository with appropriate details mentioned in the README file of the repository to ensure that your submission is complete.
1. The Idea
Upload the ideation document in .doc or .pdf format with font size 12, single spacing, Times New Roman font. The document should include the uniqueness of the idea, the impact of the solution on business and the simplification of existing processes. Further, it should also include the architectural flow of the proposed solution. Later, mention the technologies you have used in developing the solution. Also, define the scope of work in a module format.
2 Presentation
After that, you have to upload the presentation about the project developed with these details. State the problem statement you have opted to solve. Next, give the team size and the names of team members with pictures. Further, explain the role of team members in the project and their expertise areas. And brief the idea.
3. Video
Next, upload a 4-minute video of the working solution, navigating through various screens and steps of the solution that you have developed.
Lastly, submit your GITHUB link on ‘My Programs’ page. Upload the code of the program with proper comments and appropriate naming convention followed in the code.

Evaluation Criteria
IBM will check for the unique value proposition defined, the scope of work defined and completed, programming logic, code layout including scalability, consistency & naming convention, exception handling in the code, emphasis on the UI/UX design/framework implementation. Once these evaluations are complete, the shortlisted teams will receive a confirmation email and the team names will be announced.
Next Project submissions:
IBM will give access to create a project template for the selected teams. They must list out the steps followed in building the solution. And once the project template is approved by the mentor, IBM will create a project workspace with GitHub Account, Zoho Document and Slack Channel.
Bootcamp details
Selected Teams will have to attend an online Bootcamp. This is necessary to gain skills on IBM Cloud, IBM Watson Studio, IBM Watson AI Services, which will help in solution development. The Bootcamp will be organized for 5 days with the duration being 2-3 hrs a day. Even if you just attend the Bootcamp sessions, you will get three badges that will upskill you and look very good on your resume.
