Huawei launches P20 & P20 Pro with triple camera system

Huawei has finally unveiled its much anticipated Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. Both the newly launched devices include major AI advances, combining technology and art to offer seamless smartphone experience. The Huawei P20 Pro features the world’s first Leica triple camera, which makes capturing professional quality images a truly effortless experience for everyone.

Richard Yu, the CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group, said, "The Huawei P20 Series builds on the legacy of our collaboration with Leica. With a breakthrough triple camera on the HUAWEI P20 Pro, an advanced dual camera on the Huawei P20, and powerful artificial intelligence on both, today’s most vibrant consumers can capture and share the brilliance of the world around them.”

The Huawei P20 features a 5.8-inch screen while the Huawei P20 Pro sports a  6.1-inch screen with thin bezels and Full View displays. There is a home button on the front, though on the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. The P20 Pro has an OLED display, while the P20 has an RGBW screen.

Both the smartphones are powered by Kirin 970 octa-core processor with a focus on AI. Huawei P20 series features a dedicated Neural Processing Unit on Kirin 970 for all the AI-based features. The smartphones run EMUI 8.1 based on Android 8.1. The P20 comes with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, though there is no slot for a microSD card. The Huawei P20 Pro comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. Huawei P20 series also does away with the headphone jack.  While the P20 Pro has a 4,000 mAh battery, the smaller P20 has a 3,400 mAh battery on board. Both smartphones will also support Google’s ARCore for advanced augmented reality capabilities.

In the camera department, Huawei P20 Pro features a Leica triple camera. The camera configuration includes a 40-megapixel RGB sensor, a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor and an 8-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens. Huawei P20 Pro also comes with a colour temperature sensor for better colour reproduction, says the company. The aperture details are f/1.8, f/1.6 and f/2.4 wide aperture respectively. For the selfie lovers, both smartphones have a 24-megapixel selfie camera with AI beautification and 3D portrait lighting.

The Huawei P20 starts at a price of 649 Euros while the Pro version costs 899 Euros.

Apart from these models, Huawei has teamed up with Porsche to launch the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS that features a Leica triple camera with the highest total pixel count on a smartphone available in the market. The camera configuration is comprised of a 40-megapixel RGB sensor, a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor and an 8-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens. This is the world’s first smartphone equipped with microcapsule PCM – an aerospace cooling technology for maintaining a safe temperature.

In addition, the Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS features an innovative in-screen fingerprint sensor which allows consumers to wake up the device by floating their finger above the display while touching the sensor to unlock the device is lightning fast. The back fingerprint sensor can also be used to unlock the device or to access a second, secure space. The 6-inch OLED 2K curved screen Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS is available in Black, and an eye-catching Red colour.

The Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS will be available in two storage variants- 256GB version costing 1,695 Euros while the 512GB version priced for 2,095 Euros.
