BANGALORE: Huawei Technologies, the global telecom major from Mainland China, has deputed George Huang as the new chief operations officer (COO) of its Indian subsidiary.

Prior to his new posting, 36-year-old Huang was the COO of Huawei's Nanjing Research Institute, the company's another R&D facility in Nanjing city, China.

As the $5.6-billion Huawei's largest overseas R&D centre outside China, Huawei Technologies India Ltd develops telecom core platforms and end-to-end telecom solutions for its customers worldwide.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao had visited the Huawei India facility during his trip to Bangalore April 10.

In his new role, Huang will focus on Huawei's India vision, develop its long-term investment and strategic plan, including expanding the operations and setting up the subsidiary's R&D campus in the outskirts of Bangalore.

Huang succeeds James Yuan, who has taken up new responsibilities in Huawei's product line marketing division.

During the last five years since entering India as the first Chinese software firm, Huawei invested about $90 million in the subsidiary, employing about 800 techies.
